Velden am Wörther See Christmas Market

Velden am Wörther See is an important and renowned Austrian holiday resort, the town is located along the shores of Lake Wörther (Wörther See) between Villach and Klagenfurt. The center originated in the Middle Ages as a castle, from the end of the 19th century the city became a popular holiday resort and still is today. There are numerous historic hotels and mansions dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

1) Velden am Wörther See Christmas Market (Veldener Advent). The Christmas market is usually held inside the famous Velden Casino, here visitors can admire a Christmas tree made of Swarovski crystals. Inside a ship anchored on the lake, the craft market (Kunsthandwerksmarkt) is set up where local craftsmen display their works of art.

Velden is known as the city of angels during Advent. There are many attractions during Velden’s Christmas, with an eye to the events dedicated to children: at the entrance to the Casino, the little ones can visit the animal zoo, in the village there is also a bakery where children can learn to make and bake cookies and Christmas sweets, it is also possible to mount pony horses on top. A colorful little train will take young and old around the town. A blacksmith will show how he creates his own masterpieces. During Advent, the huge (25 meters in diameter) illuminated Advent wreath shines in the lake.
