Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is located just 90 km from Trieste and the border with Italy, this historic city can be an interesting alternative destination for visiting the classic Christmas markets. Ljubljana was for centuries under the Austrian Habsburgs and the city was affected and still is affected by the Austrian influence in the palaces and in its appearance and also in the mentality of the inhabitants. Even the Christmas markets in Ljubljana are affected by the history that has closely linked the city to German culture and are in fact set up like those held in neighboring Austria.
