In front of the Marktkirche, in the old city (Altstadt), there is usually the main Christmas Market made up of stalls and wooden chalets displaying traditional Christmas objects and a Christmas craft market illustrating ancient crafts. The city also has a local food themed market set in a reconstruction of a typical Finnish village which takes place in the Ballhofplatz.
