Michelstadt im Odenwald is a small town in Hesse, in the Odenwald, located about 80 km southeast of Frankfurt am Main. The town has ancient origins, the first documentation dates back to the Middle Ages (8th century), when a castle was built there.

Today the town has beautiful old wooden houses, a beautiful 15th century town hall, a medieval castle (Kellereihof), a very old basilica (Einhards-Basilika) dating back to the 9th century and the palace of the Erbach-Fürstenau counts.
