Charleroi, the largest city in Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium, nestles along the banks of the River Sambre, between the cities of Namur and Mons. Charleroi is an industrial city, at the center of an important mining area. The city has an interesting past, it was in fact founded as a fortress in the 17th century by the Spaniards, and during the years following its foundation it repeatedly changed hands, thanks to its highly strategic position. On the southern outskirts of Charleroi, inside a 19th century convent, there is an interesting museum dedicated to photography.
CHARLEROI CHRISTMAS MARKET

The approximately 40 stalls of this Christmas Market usually fill the place de la Digue, here you will find handicrafts from Wallonia and local gastronomy.
