Altenburg Christmas Market

The small town of Altenburg in Thuringia is beautifully located between Chemnitz, Leipzig, Dresden, Erfurt and Zwickau. The city had a certain importance between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries, today it retains a beautiful historic center with a beautiful castle (Schloss Altenburg), a fine Renaissance-style town hall (Altenburger Rathaus), some interesting churches and beautiful old houses.

Altenburg Christmas Market (Altenburger Weihnachtsmarkt). The Altenburg Christmas market takes place in the central Hauptmarkt square, overlooked by the most important buildings of this beautiful town in the German region of Thuringia. The advent weeks are enlivened not only by the typical Christmas market but also by a rich program of events, in fact concerts are held in the churches, in the castle and in the theatre. During the Advent weeks, events are also organized for culture lovers, children and families, including singing and dancing, an entertainment program with children’s choirs, and storytelling in the evening.
